Abstract: The care of the elderly in need is a topical issue today. As a result of the consequences of
scientific progress, Most of the elderly are destitute seems to be facing difficulties in accessing
basic needs. This study, whose main objective is to contribute to the implementation and
application of support policies for the elderly in need, took place in the first five regions of Mali
and in the District of Bamako. It involved 1200 destitute elderly people and heads of certain
institutions in charge of managing support for the elderly. The results obtained showed that 3%
of respondents said they could not take care of themselves, 83% were not affiliated with social
networks, 98% said they needed help on a daily basis, 73% had an annual income of less than
200,000 FCFA and finally 71% said they were unaware of the existence of the priority card. This
study highlighted the lack of social protection for the elderly in need and calls for more policy
interventions. |
